Stud Service Terms and Conditions

Fowberry Alpacas will endeavour to provide the very best care for your alpacas visiting our stud males. Visiting females are housed in their own paddock with a quiet, caring environment. Their care includes all feed (Camelibra), any routine husbandry and a comprehensive handover report on departure. The stud service fee includes 10 weeks agistment (or 8 weeks from the date of a successful mating) and ultra-sound scan to confirm pregnancy before departure. Females staying more than 8 weeks following a successful mating will be charged at double our standard agistment rate, pro rata, for excess time on farm unless in groups of two or more from the same client. All veterinary costs will be met by the owner, whom we shall attempt to inform immediately, should any health problems arise In the unlikely event that females leave us after 10 weeks not pregnant, only agistment charges (£8+VAT per week) and veterinary costs (if any) will apply. All fees are payable prior to alpacas returning home. We will expect clients to fully investigate with their vet any females that do not hold a pregnancy following their third “Drive By” visit, or authorise us to do likewise after three unsuccessful “On Farm” matings. At Fowberry Alpacas, we pay particular attention to our males’ grazing and nutrition to ensure correct condition and mineral balance for optimum fertility, and their enviable “strike rate” demonstrates this.

All females for "On Farm" matings (BLUE PRICES) or for "Drive By" mating (GREEN PRICES) must be healthy, in the correct condition for conceiving and carrying minimal fleece growth. We will require satisfactory written confirmation that they have not been in contact with any livestock with, or on a holding that has or has had, within the preceeding six months, any known health risks (e.g. bTB, BVD, Eimeria Macusaniensis, mange). We reserve the right not to accept Maiden Females for mating if more than 21 months old on arrival.

Fowberry Alpacas guarantee a live cria on the ground (24 hrs) or a free return to service. This guarantee applies only to the owner of the female at the time of mating and is not transferable to another female or owner. The live cria guarantee will be honoured after a post mortem certificate signed by a veterinarian confirms that the loss was not due to avoidable causes. Free return and live cria guarantees cannot be honoured due to the death of the female.

As all alpacas visiting Fowberry are entirely at their owners' risk, fully insuring each animal is advised. Payment is due strictly by/on the day of mating for "Drive By" matings, and prior to the return of females for "On Farm" matings, unless separate written arrangements have been made with us in advance. On advance group bookings, full payment is due before the half way point in the matings is reached unless separate written arrangements have been made with us in advance.

Because of the current situation regarding bTB in England, Fowberry Alpacas have formulated the following, in addition to the above, with regard to Stud Services with immediate effect and until further notice.

Initial enquiries for Stud Services should please include your CPH (Holding) number or your PTI (Parish Testing Interval) available from RPA and DEFRA respectively.

We will:

• Require in all cases a completed "Self Declaration" form to include a further declaration of any "movements on" of any susceptible livestock within the previous SIX MONTHS.
• Subject to the above, offer "Drive By" matings at our own absolute discretion.
• Subject to the above, offer "On Farm" matings at our own absolute discretion.
• In ALL cases, and in advance, fully liase with Clients regarding visiting females already present here, their origins, health and risk to any arriving females and vice versa for those already here.
• Where possible, try to offer your females for "On Farm" matings, a field specifically for their sole use within our own farm biosecurity structure, but this cannot be guaranteed.
• Ensure that our own movement records will at all times be available for inspection.

We may:

• Have to make a supplemental charge where a smaller number of females than the reasonable capacity of the paddock, require sole use of a paddock for "On Farm" matings, and we cannot guarantee that a field shelter will be available in every visiting females' paddock, so we would counsel against very early and very late season "On Farm" matings, or very young crias accompanying females.

A signed Mating Contract and female's breeding/recent veterinary history to include current endoparasite and ectoparasite control regimes and vaccination programmes is required in advance, along with a satisfactory "Self Declaration" form before we will accept females for mating.

BLUE  prices.

"On Farm" mating, includes agistment at Crambe Grange for 10 weeks or 8 weeks following a successful mating.

GREEN prices.

"Drive By" mating, female comes to Crambe - mated 'while you wait'.

The TOTAL number of matings taken from all our Males will determine the charging rate for each Male.  Please contact us for package prices or to discuss availability of our males in 2010.
