Three cria born in 27 minutes!

Perfect Pandora

What a busy hour we had on Wednesday 26th of May.  As we watched the start of labour with one female, two more decided that the time was right for them too. After Petra, Pandora and Picasso were born, the rest of the pregnant girls stood around shell-shocked and not knowing which way to turn with babies running all ways.  These three text book births starting at 11am missed our Advanced Alpaca Course, birthing section by 24 hours, to the disappointment of delegates.

Pandora

Top photos of Pandora (9.7 kilos, 28 hours old) born to our top breeding female, Jacinta and her densest cria born to date (sire Top Account).  A breeder with hundreds of alpacas suggested to us that some females work up to their best cria by number three or four.  Jacinta has certainly come up trumps with this stunningly beautiful girl (third cria) and we are relieved that we didn't lose her to a new home this Spring for the bargain price of £6,500.

Pretty Petra

Third photo of Petra (8.7 kilos, 28 hours old) born to a light fawn maiden dam with sire Harrison having his third girl of the season and again mid-fawn.
