Reflections on the 2010 birthing season

Pixie, sire Miguel, with dam, IndiaThe Fowberry Alpacas team are happy and sad that the 2010 birthing season is over.  Happy because we have fifteen healthy female cria and six healthy male cria and sad because that is it until next April.  We only have cria born on farm until as early in July as we can manage, so that cria weight gains don't tail off when the goodness goes out of the grass in late summer. Highlights of this season for us has been the first, extraordinarily lovely cria from young stud male Fowberry Lucien; three blue black female cria born and our wonderful elegant Francesca giving us her fourth daughter - Paloma, by Top Account, with one of the most advanced and organised fleeces we have ever seen on a cria so young. Paloma pictured bottom right at 3.5 months old and 31.5 kilos.

We have been so impressed with the quality of WD Miguel of Fowberry's cria over the last two years, both in conformation, fleece and their friendly and approachable characters that we have nine cria due to him next year, including a cria from a light fawn female ! Watch this space.
