British Alpaca Futurity

Midsummer Storm, Shoulder shot, 2nd fleece

The British Alpaca Futurity Show at Stoneleigh was held last weekend and most enjoyable it was.  It is the leading showcase for alpacas in the U.K. and Europe and this year with international judge, Jude Anderson. The workshops were educational and informative and the fleece competition was a new addition to the show (no alpacas taken by us). Fowberry Midsummer Storm flew the flag for Fowberry Alpacas, by scoring 82.5 points and coming 2nd in a class of eighteen.   This 'shoulder shot' of his second fleece was taken last month in the barn with little natural light, his shoulder seemed to catch light and display well.  Storm is from our best female, Francesca and was her first cria after her c-section in 2006, weighing in at 10 kilos. Apart from Midsummer Storm, Top Account showed his coloured offspring have the competitive edge, both coming third in the brown and fawn fleece class respectively.

 Nina's photo winning first place

The photography section gave us a First for orphan Nina and other pleasing results too.  Nina won't have the chance to win a prize herself this Spring and then, we have already picked out a lovely boy for her to breed with later on: Lucien's stunning full Accoyo half  brother, Merlin (same dam).  We hope Nina will not be like her grand dam, Hazel, who ferociously rejected our choice of male in favour of one she 'liked'!
