Alpaca Bird Nesting Material
If any of you have seen the highly intelligent crow or magpie searching through shrubbery for small birds nests to eat the young, then you will know why we don't offer our alpaca bird nesting material in any other colour than the dark alpaca colours. Using white or lighter colours would be like tiny birds waving a white flag for predators to see.
An experiment at Fowberry Alpacas has shown that garden birds more readily take to fleece offered to them, if they can access it easily from a dispenser with larger holes. We have had good results from a bird-suet-feed dispenser and these can be purchased from as little as £1.85 in flat suet-cake shape (as photo) or round shape. They should last a long time and certainly a lot longer than the fleece in them. This first photo is of alpaca Hermione's fleece being offered for the new bird nesting season.
We know alpaca fleece is popular with all birds - we have seen Jackdaws picking fleece from the backs of our alpacas, so treat your birds to some luxury this spring....
