386-day gestation cria arrives!

Perseus at three hours old

Perseus has, at last been born after 386 days and a cracking little lad he is too, we are quite smitten. His maiden dam was serviced just the once, when she was 20 months old (not paddock mated).  She didn't look particularly big, but Jenny was able to feel limbs while trying ballottement on the dam.  The birth was unspectacular, the presentation correct and the only thing slightly unusual was the waters resisting breaking because of the toughness of the bag.

We appreciate he looks like a suri, because his fleece has had so much longer to grow, but he is a full huacaya! (sire Viscount) He weighed in at 7.3 kilos, below our average farm weight by about a kilo.
